Gearing Up To Discover What’s Been Happening With Amaranth In East Africa

I’m looking forward to an opportunity in April to evaluate the long-term impacts of World Renew’s promotional work on grain amaranth. Starting in 1998, but especially in the years 2006 and 2007, we made a special effort to teach farmers and mothers how to grow and how to prepare grain amaranth for eating. This effort in 2006 & 2007 was made possible by special funding from the Canadian Food Grains Bank and Sid & Audrey Kramer served as volunteer trainers.  Since then, we have heard many good reports and a volunteer-intern even made a video that I encourage you can watch on you tube. Given the importance of the first 1000 days of childrens’ growth and development, and the need for nutritious post-weaning foods–I’m hoping that we learn a lot from the farmers of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania!
